Week 8 Blog Take 2 LOL

I will attempt my blog again since I did not understand the instructions the first time (my fault I admit it). The three IDEA objectives presented to blog about are of great importance to me and I hope the entire student body. Objective three “Learning to apply course material” should be of great value to all students. An example of this objective goes back to when I heard a culinary student say “I came here to learn how to cook, not do math”. I want to call this arrogant, but the student probably just didn’t see the bigger picture, and how much math is involved with the culinary art industry.
The truth is all of the NON culinary classes do play a role in your culinary career; and the other majors as well. This is more obvious in the next two objectives of “Developing skills in expressing myself orally or in writing” and “Developing a clearer understanding of, and commitment to, personal values.". To me, it is these two objectives that bring out the professionalism, passion, and hire-ability of the future professions to be had by the students. Without a doubt, I do feel evolved and more prepared for the professional world which lies before me; as a result of my passionate instructors and their embracement of these objectives. My recommendations, for the last four weeks of this quarter, are to continue in the direction which we are going, and to make sure all instructors know and understand that these objectives are well received and appreciated.

Idead blog of community

In week seve
n we discussed community and what communities we belong to. More importantly we examined what communities would be receptive to our "This I Believe" paper. The result of analyzing this really helped me realize how important food can play a role in everybodies life; and not just culinary enthusiasts. I now believe my "This I Believe" paper would be recevied by all people of all communitites and cultures. When my paper was cross examined and read by fellow students, they appreciated what I had written in regards to a meaningful life via culinary arts. What really flattered me was that it was not two other culinary students.

I still need to establish a more firm background in my paper, but I believe my primary research and my secondary research will deliver this result. Furthermore, I look forward to seeing the final presentations by all of my classmates, and not just my final product.

Week 6 which I do Believe

http://thisibelieve.org/essay/19213/

The essay link, I posted above, reminded me of me; and how I see the world. This essay inspired and reminded me of the value I have for the animals in my life, both past and present. I can become so irritated when I hear people claim that we are superior to animals, animals dont have souls (which I agree because I don't believe in souls period), and animals are here to serve us. If these specific people could stop for a second and truly examine the unconditional love a dog exhibits, they could probably learn a thing or two. I am not claiming great white sharks want to be our buddies, but animals have just as much right to be here on this planet as we do. I think they should be treated with more respect, and in return we as humans might just learn a thing or two as a result. In this specific essay, I share in my link, the man reciting his essay had a pesonality makeover because fo his dog. It resulted in him becoming engaged.

SWOT analysis

This week, in gen ed class, we did a SWOT analysis. I did not realize how overdue I was to perform one of these again. The self analysis revealed to me illustrated what I need to work on in terms of my weaknesses and threats. The realization was I need to manage my actions towards being a professional more seriously. I have always enjoyed the sound of others laughing and enjoying life with little stress. As a result I ended up a class clown and I am not sure if I want that to be my legacy.

Recovering from Absence

Obviously, I was absent last week in class, so I admit I do feel a little bit lost creating this weeks blog. I can blog that I am thankful for the ecompanion site, and its way of be useful when you are absent. By going to ecomapnion I was able to go to week four for this class and pull up the "agenda" that would have been handed out if I were present. This is what illustrated to me to work on part 5 of assignment B and what was going to be due next week.
Ecompanion is also where I discovered I needed to navigate through two different sections on ecompanion. The first section I explored was the writing tutorial. This section provides a direct and easy to understand approach to citing sources in both MLA & APA, as well as grammar and the writing process. I wish I would have been familiar with this area of ecompanion when I was taking my research writing class. The second section I explored on ecompanion was the tutorial for ecompanion. This section provides resources for troubleshooting any problems you may have with online classes, as well as providing a clear explanantion of what is expected out of students.
